Gurrutxaga and Uriondo were the two highest scoring txakolis from the txakolis given points by the most influential critic in the world.
The txakolis produced under the Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée Txakoli de Bizkaia, Gurrutxaga 2009 and Uriondo 2009, have received international recognition for its quality having received 91 points in the latest edition of the guide "The wine advocate", published by the most influential critic of the world, Robert Parker. Furthermore, another two vineyards registered in the Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée, Agirrebeko 2009 and Itsasmendi 2009, have received an excellent review and managed a score of 90 points from the North American guru.
These scores place the Biscayan txakolis among the best rated young white wines in the entire territory. A category that of young white wines, showing no signs of having an inferiority complex competing against wines of a considerably higher price.
The recognition by Parker endorses the excellent quality of txakolis produced under this Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée, given that the Itsasmendi no. 7 2008 had recently received the Bachuus de Oro ("Golden Bachuus"), the highest accolade awarded by the Spanish of Wine Tasters Association, as well as the Bachuus de Plata ("Silver Bachuus") for both the Itsasmendi 2009 and Itsasmendi Urezti 2006 wines.
Reviews and prizes that are increasingly becoming a frequent occurrence and place the Biscay Txakoli among quality wines, while at the same time defining it as a highly original wine that is characterised by a pleasant acidity leaving a lasting and well-balanced taste on the palate.
