New ambassadors of the Chacoli de Bizkaia
Jorge Fernandez, Kirmen Uribe and Julio Alegria received their awards over the course of the Txakoli Eguna held on 26 April in the Ensanche Market during the official presentation of the 2009 vintage.
The building which, in its heyday, housed the Ensanche Market was the venue selected this time to hold the XIII edition of the Txakoli Eguna (Txakoli Day). In the course of the event which was attended by 500 people, the Regulatory Council of the Apellation d'Origine Contrôlée, AOC Chacoli de Bizkaia - Bizkaiko Txakolina gave out their awards to the new Ambassadors.
The Regulatory Council with the awarding of Ambassador of Txakoli de Bizkaia honoured those persons and institutions that have a tradition associated with values such as the desire to better oneself and pride in being Biscayan. Qualities, both of which define the image of Txakoli which the Council wishes to project.
In this edition, the designees were the popular television host of Antena 3, Jorge Fernandez, who could not attend due to work commitments, the recently awarded winner of the National Narrative Prize for Literature, Kirmen Uribe, and Julio Alegria, the well known entrepreneur from Bilbao linked to the fashion world.
In this act of proclamation of the new ambassadors, the president of the Regulatory Council, Elena Unzueta also took the floor, and who made a point fo highlighting the excellent quality of the 2009 vintage. "As compared to last year, it is more structured and full-bodied". Its alcohol content varies between 11.5º and 13º, "which gives it a greater presence without sacrificing its characteristic freshness", the president qualified.
Bizkaiko Txakolina and Bilbao Turismo
Elena Unzueta also pointed out that the great challenge for the Regulatory Council in the immediate future is the opening of new markets to promote the final expansion of txakoli de Bizkaia, both withing the country as well as in the international area. "In this promotional work we are working hand in hand with Bilbao Turismo, the municipal corporation with which we have just signed a partnership agreement that will allow us to be take part in numerous national and international events in which Bilbao is involved in".
