In a ceremony held on 28 November at the Mendibile Palace the winners of the II Ipar Kutxa Prize for professionalism in the treatment of Txakoli of Biscay were announced, an initiative to reward restaurateurs who are distinguished by their dedication in the service of the Txakoli.
The film director Pedro Olea, the actress Gurutze Beitia, and the Biscayan entrepreneur Xabier Uribe-Etxebarria, founder of Anboto, a company which has been singled out as the best entrepreneurship in the world in the field of new technologies, have been selected as the new Bizkaiko Txakolina 2011 ambassadors.
The Regulatory Council of the Txakoli of Biscay (RCDO) has presented itself for the first time in Barcelona and has surprised and captivated more than 200 professionals of the wine, catering and distribution worlds, which have discovered the characterisation and originality of these different wines which are only elaborated in Biscay.

In its latest issue it describes the 2010 vintage as “outstanding” and awards 88 or more points to 25 txakolis of Biscay, eight of which eight exceeded the 90 points mark.

The excellent Spring that we have enjoyed in 2011 has this year meant that the grape enter into the cellars around ten days ahead of schedule.

Bizkaiko Txakolina already has a new strategic plan which contains the salient guidelines for the sector for the next 5 years.

“It’s much more than an award. When compared with the Spanish film industry this award would be a Goya”, stated Alfredo Egia proudly.

It has presented the II Award Ipar Kutxa to the professionalism in the treatment of Txakoli de Bizkaia, initiative of Ipar Kutxa and Bizkaiko Txakolina.
